Every semester ESN Eduk8 hosts a 4-day training for the volunteers in ESN. These two trainings are called Autumn and Spring training. Every time there is a different set of tracks the participants can choose to follow to gain new knowledge in this field.

The Eduk8 Spring Training 2015 was this time held in Kaunas, Lithuania from the 11th to 15th March. There were two tracks to choose from. The Motivation track and the Intercultural Learning track. The experience was amazing! We were 40 active ESNers from more than 13 countries and after these events you always come home with a great network of new friends!

Wednesday: Arrival, guided tour and teambuilding

For the participants that arrived early, the Organization Committee (OC) had arranged a guided tour around the beautiful city Kaunas. The first day of the training was on the Independence Day of Lithuania, so the city was buzzing with life and there were concerts and light shows all over.

In the evening we all met and had dinner before the training began.

The rest of the evening was amazing with fun activities that made us all interact with each other, for example you had to switch badges with several different persons each time telling your name and three things about you, i.e. what you've already been told, when you received the badge, about the person whose badge you have.

Thursday: Motivators and goal setting, Lithuanian Culture Night

All participants were divided in the two tracks they had signed up for. On the motivation track we started the day with a few activities to create trust in the group. We were then introduced to the Herzberg Theory, where we learned about motivational factors and then we coupled it with ESN and our own experience. A great motivate is also the right goals and we finished off the day learning about goal setting, more specifically SMARTER goals, where we learned how to set goals and setting the right ones. Rounding off by making SMARTER goals for ourselves.

In the evening, the OC had arranged an amazing Lithuanian Culture Night. We got a taste of different Lithuania delicacies, and by that we mean not only the food and drinks! We also learned some really fun Lithuanian folk dances as well. This was an awesome introduction to the Lithuanian Culture in one night!

Friday: Team roles, work environment, Leadership styles and Practice Project

Friday morning we looked at team roles and how individuals behaviour influences a teams success. We learned to be aware of other team personalities and how to interact with them in a team. Furthermore, we did a simulation game, where we learned how motivation comes from the working environment and that different leadership styles greatly affect the way you work and that a good leader have to adapt to any given situation.

The rest of the day we spend working on our Practice Project. Where we brainstormed several motivational issues in ESN and the five top choices became the five Practice Projects. We spent the rest of the day working on the project to present our solution the next day.

In the evening the OC had arranged a Volley Ball Night, where we went to an indoor beach volley club. After two days of mental workout it was really great to playing a game and having fun.

Saturday: Practice Project, Personal reflection and goals

We started putting the last details on our project before we presented our solutions to each other. After each presentation there were a short question and discussion round. We ended up with 5 really good suggestion we could bring back in our sections to improve the motivation even further!

We then had time for self reflection where we got to make our own action plan with personal SMARTER goals.

Before the closing ceremony we got a taste of what the Intercultural Learning track had been doing.

In the evening the OC had prepared a great party to finish of the event a the Night Club called the “Basement”.
